Ideas for preventing users from running bitcoin/litecoin miners?

Earlier this week, I caught a user running Litecoin miners on our cluster. Anyone have any experience blocking such activity? We're an edu shop, so I can't just block all outgoing traffic without hindering valid users. That crowd has put a fair bit of effort into hiding their activities, so I was wondering what other sites might be doing to watch for this.

USB Mining Project

I found an old (abandon?) project that boots Arch Linux to run a bitcoin/litecoin miner automatically using cgminer.
Wonder if and how to modify it for XMR.
I've done some simple programing before in C and played around a bit with Raspberry pi, but this Github project is a little above me.

I got a 5 chip dual asic bitcoin/litecoin miner. I am using only the scrypt part of the mining. I am using the download from http://cryptomining-blog.com/tag/gridseed-overclock/ I can get it going and cgminer says I am running at 360kh/s but no matter how long I let this thing go, I never get any accepted shares. I have tried multiple pools as well. Any thoughts?

Something is wrong with my computer, and I'm starting to get really nervous that I did something wrong

So! I stayed building my computer a few months ago, and thanks to bitcoin/litecoin miners, I was only able to get my R9 290 a few weeks ago. However, since then, I've had nothing but trouble. First, my Samsung 840 Evo SSD (120 gb), which I installed my OS (Windows 8) on was malfunctioning, and working significantly slower than my WD Blue 1TB. After removing the SSD and reinstalling Windows, everything seemed fine. However, my computer started crashing randomly, which I was told by someone on here was a driver issue with my ancient USB Wifi connector. So I got a PCI-E connector, and now my Internet has gone from getting 1.5 MB/s, to no more than 150kb/s with the PCI-E. Not only that, but while gaming, it has flashed to a red screen and let off a very unsettling noise a couple of times. Also, when in the Control Panel and similar places, it often stops responding, so I try and close it from the task manager to no avail, and after the computer wouldn't even turn off, I had to do it manually. I am starting to get very concerned, and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. And specs are: AMD FX-8350 with a cooler master hyper 212 evo, MSI R9 290, Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo, 8gb of corsair vengeance ram, corsair 200r case, OCZ 750w psu, Samsung 120GB SSD, WD 1TB Blue, an LG disk drive, Netis WF-2113 PCI-E Wifi connector, and I think that's it. Thanks again. I apologize for any spelling/grammatical issues, mobile is tricky.
Edit: also, my two front usb 3.0 ports don't work, but the audio and stuff does.

OXBTC Releases The Most Cost-efficient Cloud Mining Contract

OXBTC recently released a promotional cloud mining contract with “A Price No One Can Compete With” as they state at only $149 per THS, which seems to be the lowest price among major cloud mining service providers globally.
However, it is only a short-term promotion with limited supply as well for the most cost-efficient contract. From March 21st to March 30th, people will have a chance to purchase 100 GHS AT MOST for each account on www.OXBTC.com and they have a sales limit of 5 THS every day during the 10-day promotion. So first come first served.
We’ve done a little comparison of the mainstream prices for cloud mining contracts. OXBTC does have obvious competition:
Platform --- Price (per THS) ---- Minimum Purchase
OXBTC.com --- $149 --- 1 GHS;
CEX.io --- Trading Only --- Trading Only;
Hashnest.com AntS7 --- $151 --- 4.86 THS (an S7 unit);
Hashnest.com AntS5 --- $312 --- 1.155 THS (an S5 unit);
BW.com --- $238 --- 10 GHS;
Hashflare.io --- $220 --- 10 GHS;
Besides the promotional mining contract, they are also offering major discounts on the currently sold OXBTC GHS02 contract. It is a good opportunity to buy some cloud hashrates at such a low price if you don’t have a big budget to experience another way of mining. Trading of hashrates on OXBTC market is available too if you want to sell out your contracts.
OXBTC – a new cryptocurrency investment platform which offers both cloud mining and deposit services was launched a couple of months ago. Founded by several well-established investors in China, they have an experienced R&D team who has been in the cryptocurrency industry for many years.

Despite the concern that cloud mining needs a longer term of ROI, it’s still not a bad choice if you want to mine for coins. And the special price OXBTC offers surely provides a good chance for you to make a small investment.

[USA-VA] [H] Sapphire 7970 Ghz Vapor-X [W] Paypal [W] Paypal

I bought this three weeks ago for gaming, would like to sell now to a bitcoin/litecoin miner so that I can upgrade to a 780. I haven't listed on ebay yet, but I will if I don't get any bites here. I thought I might be able to save both of us some fees. Several have sold above $400 on ebay in the last couple of days. PM me offers please.
I have all the original dongles/software/packaging. I did cut the UPC out for the rebate, but other than that it's in mint condition. Never overclocked, never used for mining.
Sorry for multiple pics, wrapped it up before I remembered to timestamp.
